Northwest Physicians Insurance Company (NPM) received its Certificate of Authority to write property and casualty insurance in the State of Oregon on November 23, 1983. The Company was originally organized as a mutual company, owned and controlled by the policyholder members. NPM was founded by a group of Salem, Oregon area physicians from a committee of the Marion-Polk County Medical Society.
In 2006, NPM was purchased by a subsidiary of The Doctors Company and became Northwest Physicians Insurance Company (NPIC). The Doctors Company is the largest and financially strongest doctor-owned medical malpractice insurance company in the country, covering more than 30,000 insured physicians.
